Plaza of Energy

Pad. 16

This year Energy Plaza hosts a video exhibition of the projects that have been selected at SAIE Selection 2011 and the final week of the Masters in Sustainability and Bio-architecture of the University of Bologna.

The Forum area, which is coordinated by Quine Business Publisher, will analyze in depth what’s new in terms of regulations, design techniques and products aiming to maximize the energy efficiency of existing buildings.

The over 1 million projects carried out as a result of the 55% tax benefit demonstrate that the construction sector has been supported by energy requalification during these past few years of economic crisis. But 18 million buildings still require such intervention. The Ministry of Development in its Energy Efficiency Plan has committed residential and service buildings to the very onerous task of contributing, 40% and 20% respectively to the reduction of the country’s energy bill. Of the planned final energy consumption reduction to be achieved by 2016 of 126.540 GWh/year (a reduction of approximately 10%!) buildings will have to contribute 84.517 GWh/year. In the four years since the 55% tax benefits have been applied the energy reduction has been limited to 5.204 GWh/year, one twentieth of the planned objective. A change in pace is needed, and the law makers require it; energy requalification projects will have to be designed with more attention to their actual performance in future.

In the Energy Plaza national and international case studies will provide evidence of best practice in energy requalification. The reasons for the mismatch between planned and actual energy reduction objectives will be discussed. Furthermore, in the context of thinking of almost zero-energy building, videos of the construction process of the buildings that have been competing in the international Solardecathlon® competition will be projected.

In the morning section of the Forum area the energy sector’s trade associations will present what’s new in regulations associated with Law 78/2011 with regard to renewable energy, the new thermal energy account and the possible extension of the 55% tax benefit opportunity for buildings. The afternoon sessions will be dedicated to firms that will have the opportunity to explain their building and technology solutions for energy reduction plus their practical implementation to the public.
