Sustainability Plaza

Pad. 21

This year, thanks to the support of the Regional Council of Emilia Romagna, Sustainability Plaza will include an exhibition, held by Green Building Council Italy, where projects that are being certified by LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) will be displayed. At the same time there will be a direct link with GreenBuild – International Conference and Expo – held in Toronto at the same time as SAIE, to bring to Bologna the opinions of the leading experts on green building and enable a long distance dialogue with them.

The Plaza will also include an area of the University of Bologna - DAPT – with the results of the first international convention “Green Buildings and Sustainable Cities”.

Sustainability on display

GBC Italia is the curator of the exhibition to be held within the Sustainability Plaza (Hall 21) of the projects realised with the LEED-GBC Italia system  which are particularly noteworthy.  The exhibition will in fact feature some of the most significant Italian LEED certified buildings, amongst which:  the Porta Nuova in Milano, the MUSE in Trento by Renzo Piano, the Energy Park in Vimercate, the Nuovo Centro e Ricerche e Innovazione in Bergamo (I.LAB) and many others.
In total some 20 projects will be exhibited, representative for their environmental sustainability, evaluated according to a range of aspects taken into account by the LEED-GBC Italia systems’ standards of certification.

Green building
Toronto, 4-7th October 2011
The biggest exhibition in the world on the topic of green building with live streaming to Saie's Sustainability Plaza

The US Green Building Council's annual conference and expo is about to begin in Toronto with 25,000 delegates from over 115 countries, hundreds of seminars and more than 1,000 exhibitors. A press release from the Metro Toronto Convention Center indicates striking numbers, spending on the part of attendees making an impact of over 58 million Canadian Dollars on the local economy.

Toronto was chosen by USGBC as the latest location for this annual event for a number of reasons including its rise within the Green Building movement with over 300 registered projects and 44 already certified using the LEED protocol. Rick Fedrizzi, president of USGBC, comments: "Toronto's building market has continued to grow and is getting better and better, it's the perfect place to take stock 10 years after the birth of Greenbuild."

Organised in conjunction with Canada GBC, Greenbuild aims to inspire and educate; tens of big speakers, diverse updates lasting one or two days on the themes of "green jobs", residential building, subsidised building, the international green building market; prominent speakers such as Thomas Friedman (New York Times), Kim Campbell (Canadian Prime Minister), Cokie Roberts (ABC News), anthropologist and physicist Paul Farmer, Michael Bloomberg (Mayor of New York).

In addition the opening plenary session will feature the winners of the Grammy Awards, the band Marron 5, in concert.

All the ingredients for making a great event on sustainable building.

And once again this year SAIE will bring the world's voice to Bologna, in conjunction with GBC Italia, organising links in to Canada which will alternate with live transmission from USGBC.
